The Widow’s Offering

woman giving something to a man, Bible story

Origin: Mark 12:41-44 in the Bible

Once upon a time, in a bustling marketplace, there lived a kind widow. She was very poor and had very little to give, but she had a generous heart.

One day, Jesus was sitting near the temple treasury, watching as people dropped their offerings into the collection box. Many rich people came and gave large amounts of money. Their coins made a loud clinking sound as they fell into the box.

The widow approached the treasury quietly. She only had two small coins, worth only a few cents. But with a humble heart, she dropped both coins into the collection box.

Jesus, who saw everything, called His disciples to Him and said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

The disciples were amazed by Jesus’ words. They realized that the widow’s small offering meant much more to God because it came from her heart, and she gave all that she had.

And so, children, the story of the widow’s offering teaches us about the true meaning of generosity. It’s not about how much we give, but about the love and sacrifice behind our giving.

Remember, like the widow, always give from your heart, no matter how small your gift may seem. God treasures every act of kindness and generosity, no matter how humble.
