Kitty Cat loved to run. She was the fastest kitty in the whole wide world! She could zoom past the daisies, whiz around the rose bushes, and streak across the grass faster than you could say “Meow!”
One sunny afternoon, the animals decided to have a Rainbow Ribbon Race. The prize? A beautiful rainbow ribbon!
Kitty Cat was so excited. She stretched her legs, wiggled her whiskers, and got ready to win. Her friend, Danny Duck, stood beside her, waddling slightly. Danny wasn’t very fast. He liked to take his time and enjoy the scenery.
“On your marks, get set…GO!” shouted Barnaby Bear, the race starter.
Kitty Cat zoomed off like a rocket! She didn’t even look back. She was so focused on winning that she didn’t notice a root sticking out of the ground.
Trip! Kitty Cat tumbled head over heels. She landed with a soft thud, a little dizzy and with a scraped paw.
“Ouch!” she cried. She looked up and saw Danny Duck waddling towards her, his little bill quivering with concern.
“Kitty! Are you okay?” he quacked.
Kitty Cat shook her head. “I tripped,” she said sadly. “I don’t think I can finish the race.”
Danny Duck looked at Kitty Cat’s scraped paw. Then, he looked at the finish line, where the rainbow ribbon shimmered in the sun.
“Don’t worry, Kitty,” said Danny Duck. “I’ll help you. We can finish the race together.”
Kitty Cat looked at Danny Duck. She knew he was slow, but she also knew he was a good friend.
“Really?” she asked.
Danny Duck nodded. He gently helped Kitty Cat to her feet. “Slow and steady,” he quacked. “We’ll get there.”
So, Kitty Cat and Danny Duck walked (and waddled) together towards the finish line. Kitty Cat limped slightly, but Danny Duck kept her going, cheering her on and making her laugh with his silly quacks.
Finally, they reached the finish line. Barnaby Bear placed the rainbow ribbon around both of them.
“You both won!” he announced.
Kitty Cat smiled. She didn’t zoom to the first place, but being side by side with her friend and supporting each other it was worth more than the rainbow ribbon!
She realized that winning wasn’t the most important thing. Having a good friend by your side and sharing the journey together was much more special. It taught her that sharing with friends is much more fun!
