The Exodus: Escape from Egypt

People heading towards one way, Bible Story

Origin: Exodus 14 in the Bible

Long ago, in the land of Egypt, there lived a great leader named Moses. Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites, God’s chosen people, out of slavery and into freedom.

The Israelites had been living in Egypt for many years, but they were treated very poorly by the Egyptians. They were forced to work hard as slaves, building cities and making bricks under harsh conditions.

God heard the cries of His people and decided to rescue them from slavery. So He sent Moses to Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, with a message: “Let my people go!”

But Pharaoh refused to listen to Moses. He didn’t want to let the Israelites leave because they were skilled workers, and he needed them to work for him.

So God sent ten terrible plagues upon Egypt to show His power and convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. These plagues included things like frogs, locusts, and even the Nile River turning to blood.

After the tenth plague, which was the death of the firstborn in every Egyptian household, Pharaoh finally relented and told Moses to take the Israelites and leave Egypt.

The Israelites were overjoyed to be free at last! They packed their belongings quickly and began their journey out of Egypt. But Pharaoh soon changed his mind and sent his army to chase after them.

As the Israelites reached the edge of the Red Sea, they were trapped between the sea and Pharaoh’s army. They were scared and didn’t know what to do.

But God performed a miracle to save His people. He parted the waters of the Red Sea, creating a dry path for the Israelites to walk through. They crossed safely to the other side, with walls of water on either side of them.

When Pharaoh’s army tried to follow them, the waters came crashing down, drowning the soldiers and horses.

The Israelites praised God for His mighty power and for saving them from slavery. They continued their journey through the wilderness, guided by Moses, until they reached the promised land of Canaan.

And so, children, the story of the Exodus teaches us about God’s faithfulness and His power to rescue His people. It reminds us that God hears our prayers and cares for us, even in the darkest times.
