Jesus Walks on Water

Jesus walking on water

Origin: Matthew 14:22-33 in the Bible

Once upon a time, Jesus and His disciples were in a boat, crossing the Sea of Galilee. It was nighttime, and the wind was blowing strong, making the waves crash against the boat.

As they were sailing, Jesus decided to spend some time alone in prayer on a mountainside. He told His disciples to go ahead of Him to the other side of the lake while He prayed.

While Jesus was praying, the disciples found themselves struggling against the wind and the waves. Their boat was being tossed back and forth, and they were afraid.

Suddenly, in the darkness, they saw something amazing. Jesus was walking on the water towards them! They were terrified, thinking they were seeing a ghost.

But Jesus called out to them, saying, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, was brave enough to respond. He said, “Lord, if it’s really You, tell me to come to You on the water.”

“Come,” Jesus said.

So Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking on the water toward Jesus. At first, he was amazed and excited that he was walking on water just like Jesus. But then, he saw the wind and the waves, and he became afraid. He started to sink and cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught Peter. He said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Together, Jesus and Peter walked back to the boat, and as soon as they climbed in, the wind died down. The disciples were in awe and worshipped Jesus, saying, “Truly, You are the Son of God!”

And so, children, the story of Jesus walking on water teaches us about faith and trust. Just like Peter, we should have faith in Jesus and trust Him, even when things seem scary or difficult.
